Technique of immersion dying

Fill bucket with water (hot enough to dissolve salt and soda ash) add 1 level teaspoon soda ash and 2 level teaspoons salt per liter of water. Dissolve dye powder individually inside a glass jelly jar. When fully dissolved increase bucket. Once the water is lukewarm, immerse the batik in to the bucket and it moving lightly for roughly ten minutes. Leave the batik within the bucket for any further half an hour moving it from time to time. Rinse batik gently and then leave to dry overnight (minimum time) to be able to fix the dye.

Technique of application of wax

Heat a mixture of 2/3 paraffin and 1/3 beeswax within an approved wax burners towards the correct temperature (specified in your burners) fill the tjanting and lightly wipe the bowl (to avoid drainage) apply the wax for your cloth within the design of your liking. Brushes could also be used at this time.

Bandana (immersion dyed once)

3. Dry overnight

4. Elimination of wax by boiling

This can be a single color piece for that novice at batik. If you have mastered this starting point you are able to move onto further projects using more colors and intricate work.
